The first thing you will need to purchase is the motorsports UK starter pack. In this pack, you will receive important information on how to pass your ARDS test.

The test is split into two sections; a written exam and on-track driving 

Firstly, you will sit a written exam which is divided into two sections. The first section of the exam will include knowledge of the flags. You must get 100% on this section to pass. So get learning!! 

The second section of the written exam consists of multiple-choice questions. These questions are simple general knowledge of motor racing, for example, 

What would you do in the event of a fire 

A) Panic 

B) Stop on the side of the track 

C) Jump out of the car

D) Stop as close as you can to a marshall post  

The answer is D. As you can see most of the questions are incredibly easy to pass. After completing the written half of the exam you will move on to the driven half of the exam. 

For the driven half of the exam, you will be required to show an instructor your understanding of racing lines and the ability to spot other cars coming up behind you and moving out of the way. At the start of the driving exam, the instructor will likely drive you around for a couple of laps to show you what to do and then hand it over to you. You do NOT need to go fast during this part of the exam it is merely to show the instructor that you have knowledge on the track. 

Once you have passed your ARDS test you can send off the certificate and receive your national motorsports licence in the post. You will also receive a black cross in a yellow box which you will need to display on the back of your car. You will also receive a yellow upgrade card which will allow you, after six signatures, to remove the yellow cross from the back of your car. 

When ordering your licence it is important to remember that you will need to renew annually on January 1st so even if you get your licence in November you will have to pay to renew it in January.
